Corneal Ring Segments is the latest refractive procedure used
to correct vision. Vision correction is obtained by reshaping your
corneas. The cornea is the clear front surface of the eye - when the
cornea is flattened by the insertion of corneal ring segments, vision
is corrected. This change in the shape of the cornea now allows
light to focus on the back of the retina instead of on the front of the
retina. Corneal Ring Segments are virtually invisible arcs that are
meant to remain permanently implanted within your corneas. They
can, however, be removed or replaced if necessary.
Corneal Ring Segments for nearsightedness are approved by
the FDA for vision correction. The rings are a pair of almost
invisible transparent arcs. Their composition is the same material
used in Intra Ocular lenses. This material has been used safely for
at least 50 years in lens implants for cataract surgery.
Corneal Ring Segments are designed to remain permanently in
the eye yet they can also be removed or replaced. This procedure
does not involve use of the excimer laser and is typically performed
in an outpatient setting using drops to numb your eye. It takes about
15 minutes to place the Corneal Rings in your eye. The total
procedure for each eye takes usually less than one hour.
In a brief surgical procedure, Corneal Ring Segments are
surgically inserted through a tiny incision made on the cornea.
Once in place, the 2 arcs work to flatten the cornea, obtaining vision
correction. You may notice an improvement in your vision the next
day.
If your are 21 years or older with a stable refraction of -1.00 to
-3.00 diopters of myopia (nearsightedness) and 1.00 diopter or
less than astigmatism, you may benefit from Intra-Corneal Rings.
Ohio Eyecare Specialists is pleased to offer this new refractive
procedure to you. Dr. Moshirfar is one of the 1st groups of doctors
to be certified and has been performing Intra-Corneal surgery for
